Die Ou Bosstok Cinsault

Die Ou Bosstok Cinsault 2025
An understated whiff of spice and oak mingles with ripe, sweet cherry and blueberry aromas so typical of the grape. The inherent affability and friendly cheerfulness of Cinsault is on full display in this wine, but there’s an impressive restraint and good framework which prevents it from being too straightforward or simple. It’s juicy, succulent, rounded and lively. The palate delivers oodles of youngberry, raspberry, cherry and plum fruit, along with a dusting of baking spices. Rather than trading purely on fruit vivacity it is balanced with gentle tannin backbone and composed structure. Its curves and generosity are unmistakable yet it remains nimble and sprightly with impressive length of flavour.

Die Ou Bosstok Cinsault 2024
A forthcoming and delicately seductive nose reveals a delightful interplay of sweet, ripe cherry and blueberry aromas. A subtle hint of rose petals and a whisper of shy spice further enhance its allure. On the palate, the wine opens with a succulent and fresh entry, but it quickly transforms into something far more intriguing than the nose suggests. It defies expectations of lightness or overt fruitiness, instead presenting a sleek, sinewy, and powerful profile with a lithe muscularity. The fruit profile deepens into darker tones—black cherry, plum, and even prune—accentuated by a prominent liquorice note. The wine boasts impressive density and layered depth. Tannins provide structure and stature, but they remain refined and unobtrusive. Altogether, this is a cohesive, rewarding, and thoroughly delicious wine, leaving a lingering and satisfying finish.

Die Ou Bosstok Cinsault 2023
Vivid aromas of strawberry, cherry and blueberry – ripe and plump – on the nose. Those same lively berry flavours are found on the palate, joined by tangy cranberry and a light sprinkle of spice. Succulent and juicy, the wine is supple, soft-textured and approachable – but also deceptively simple as there is a deeper, darker, earthy licorice note that unfurls on the long tail. Balanced and poised, all elements are harmonious.
Additional Information
Following sufficient winter rainfall, many regions experienced favourable growing conditions throughout the season. Moderate weather during bunch and berry development supported even fruit set, while cool, dry conditions over harvest allowed for a steady and controlled ripening period. Grape analyses showed above-average acidity, alongside deep colour and concentrated flavour, resulting in fruit of excellent overall quality.

The 2024 harvest began approximately 10 days earlier than the previous year. The first impression of the 2024 vintage is that it is both small in yield and exceptional in quality. This can be attributed to the unique local weather conditions, including heavy winter rainfall, floods, strong winds, and a prolonged cool and wet spring. With small berries, an ideal ripening pace, and moderate, dry conditions during the harvest, we are thrilled by the prospect of producing wines of outstanding quality this season.

Additional Information
A warm and dry winter preceded the 2023 harvest, with fairly even budding occurring slightly earlier than the previous year. The warm conditions continued throughout the growing season, which eventually led to an overall lighter crop in most regions. Heavy rains early in December brought great relief, and ensured that the vines were in good condition leading up to harvest. For most part of the season, conditions were ideal and the quality of fruit outstanding. Unusually high and continuous rainfall in March created some challenges for later ripening regions and varietals. Overall, a great quality vintage that promises to deliver some outstanding wines.
